This fresh focus follows organizational reforms at the state-funded body, including the resignation of its ex-leader last month after both staff concerns and official demands for comprehensive reform.

The new mission comes amid growing concern about the UK's exposure to digital service failures and digital assaults.
Recent situations have highlighted these risks, including a major outage affecting global cloud computing and recent cyber-attacks that affected operations at key facilities and logistics systems across various businesses.

A previous senior officer of the UK's air and space warfare centre will deliver recommendations next month on how the publicly-supported center can most effectively assist the extent of national AI objectives in defense, homeland protection and intelligence.
Organizational Refocusing
The center's head, a former Amazon UK boss, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the organization with 440 employees have been closed, transferred out or completed because they aren't consistent with the fresh focus.

The center has faced internal strife since last year as staff protested against reforms, culminating in a group of employees submitting a formal grievance to the proper supervisory commission.
The organization's management stated that these whistleblower claims were third-party reviewed by a neutral third party that found them to have lack merit.
