Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
