The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
