Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
