President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Call

The president stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Response

Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”

Service details for Sarah are still being arranged.

Judicial Actions and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The event caused the government to halt asylum applications and halt issuing visas to owners of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
