First-choice Lineup

Nico O’Reilly Another composed performance by the rising star after his first cap against Serbia. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of a clever flick behind the Albania defence. The left-back spot is his to lose already. Seven

Adam Wharton A debut start for his country. A bit careless when playing out though his dangerous set-pieces were a threat. An effective pace-controller available to the coach to call upon against sides that sit back. Cautioned after a reckless foul. 6

Declan Rice Deliveries from dead balls and free kicks caused problems. Enjoyed freedom to roam in left midfield only to be in an offside position as the pass came with a chance to score. Awarded a well-earned substitution after an hour. Six

Jude Bellingham Functioned in a high role out wide and contributed with the hard yards. Showed glimpses of brilliance but mishit a shot over. Substituted towards the end for a teammate, his competition, after being booked. 7/10

The winger Had England’s top opening in the opening period, his shot smartly stopped by the Albanian keeper. With Quansah staying deep, he was forced to stretch the play on the right although his balls from the touchline varied in quality. Taken off for the final quarter-hour. 6/10

The captain The match-winner scoring 77th and 78th finishes at international level. His first a typical opportunist's goal while the second a superb headed goal after peeling away from his marker. At 32, he continues to improve and England have every chance in future competitions with him up top. Eight

The attacker Had difficulty to make an impact from the left. Had a decent opportunity after being played in by Bellingham yet the keeper kept it out. His replacement had a greater effect when substituted. 5/10
