Liverpool's Manager Offers No Excuses and Pledges to Find Route From Malaise

Arne Slot stated he needed to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool endured a sixth defeat in 7 Premier League matches at home against Forest and insisted he would discover a solution from the title holders' poor run.

Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, delivered the largest victory at Anfield in their history as Liverpool fell to an 8th defeat in eleven matches in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was again unnoticeable and Liverpool contended the defender's first goal should have been ruled out for comparable grounds to the captain's disallowed effort versus Manchester City before the international break. But the manager conceded the responsibility stopped with him and offered no alibis.

“No one wishes to listen to me now talking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Liverpool head coach. “I should examine my own role first and my team, but it demonstrates you how a goal can alter the momentum of a match. Before I was just waiting for us to net a strike. Later we hardly generated any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, particularly with the talented footballers we have. Regardless if you win or lose when you look back you are always thinking: ‘In which areas can we improve, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is different from questioning yourself.

“I wish to stress I am responsible for the current losses. You are answerable when you are winning but also liable when you are losing. I can never come up with enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is far from acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

The team's performance fell apart as the coach introduced several attacking substitutions when chasing the match. “It was the identical away at Nottingham Forest last season,” he remarked. “I took the French defender out and brought on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. At that time it was courageous, currently it’s probably stupid.”

Liverpool last lost back-to-back at Anfield Premier League fixtures by Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The last time they lost consecutive league games by a three-goal margin was in the mid-60s.

Slot commented: “It was extremely poor. Competing at home, conceding 3-0 regardless of which team you face is a very, very bad result. Unexpected if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the match. I did not witness us creating so many chances in the opening 30 minutes maybe the entire campaign, and the first time they arrived in our penalty area they scored.

“It did not happen at City, but in every other fixture we have been the dominant team and were able to create opportunities. Recently it is almost constantly that we miss our opportunities and the ones we concede go in.”
