Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
