Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach another team on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, that’s nice. With many victories thus frequently positive atmosphere around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
