Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
