From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
