It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fail again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

When she was removed Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
