In a bizarre partnership that defies traditional expectations, Ubisoft has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, including free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Adventure Uncovered

According to the authorized statement, "A mysterious meeting leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where hints of prohibited practices and terrifying transformations reverberate through the shadows." The storyline presents a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden cult.

The questline focuses on "bizarre trials and a monstrous adversary" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Settings and Changes

The teaser features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser finishes with a powerful scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Extra Features

Players who accomplish the quest will obtain an unique katana together with multiple items hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Update

This patch also adds the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature skills: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Mystery" also features a original environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Previous Anime Crossovers

This signifies hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime properties. The series earlier featured a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly included a quest that obviously echoed the famous series One-Punch Man.
