A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
